Natural Homemade Candles in Three Easy Steps

We are currently selling Candles of Hope to raise money to benefit recent hurricane victims through the American Red Cross Association. We would appreciate your help. However, you may also make your own natural homemade candles at the house in three easy steps. It's actually quite easy to make natural homemade candles right in your own kitchen.

Step 1-Holders or Molders

You may purchase candle holders for tealights and other built in candles or you may purchase molds to pop out as soon as your mix hardens. You may buy these for your natural homemade candles at various department stores, crafts & hobby shops, or order them online.

Step 2-Wicks

Like your holders and molders you may order them online or buy at a local craft or department store. Place your wicks gently into your molds or candle holders and make sure they remain standing upright.  You must be careful not to knock these wicks down or move them from the center of your molds or holder. Otherwise your homemade natural candles may be ruined and impossible to burn properly or even safely.

Step 3-Wax

First you will need to melt your wax. One safe and natural, though tedious, way to do this is by steaming it. A very simple way to do this is place a bowl with your hard wax inside of a pot of water. Bring that water to a boil and cover. Steam your wax until it is fully melted fluid.

To finish your natural homemade candles simply pour the wax into your molds or holders. Be careful not to knock the wicks off center as discussed previously. It might be best to invest in a wax pouring pot or use a glass measuring cup. You will also need to pour quickly because the wax will solidify as it cools.

As soon as your wax is hard and your wicks remain in place you will be ready to use your natural homemade candles. Beeswax is great because it burns long and dependent on the wick it can be reused a few times. Natural soy wax is also a common favorite among candlemakers.

Once you are done your natural homemade candles will be ready, and if you haven't done this before there may be a mess to clean up. No worries! You'll get the hang of it!
