Why Dandelions Are More than Weeds

Dandelions have (perhaps rightfully) earned a reputation as noxious and troublesome weeds. Indeed their infestations have become so serious as to even cause economic damage to major pockets in the agricultural industry because of how infested their cops have become with these weeds. There is a bright side to these romantic little wish makers, however, and as you'll the dandelions brings many benefits to harm it brings.

Liver and Bile Cleanser
In a previous article on this blog, we discussed a few herbs that are beneficial to the liver. We apparently forgot to mention dandelions, which are natural liver cleansers. It acts to stimulate the gall bladder and liver by assisting in the process of creating much-needed bile in the body.
Nutritional Benefits
Most people know that dandelions are edible but what they may not know is the benefits they provide. Dandelions are a rich source of essential nutrients including calcium, potassium, and choline. They are also packed with Vitamin A serving as an even richer source than carrots.
Benefits to the Blood
Dandelion is said to be useful in the treatment of hepatitis and blood disorders like anemia. In some cases, it has also been shown to lower high blood pressure.
Natural Diuretic
As a natural diuretic dandelion leaves have been shown to stimulate the kidneys and increase healthy urine flow.  It may also help improve the immune system
Recreational Drinks
Dandelion beer and wine are quickly becoming more popular among pockets of American culture and across the world. Many breweries have capitalized on its popularity but many hobbyists continue to enjoy brewing their own, especially in the summer.

How to Take
Dandelion can be consumed in many ways. The tender leaves are often used as garnish or topping for many salads. They have also been infused into drinks and juices, brewed into teas, and capsulized into over the counter supplements.

There are many benefits to this so-called "weed" but you should, of course, consult a physician before using, especially if you are taking medications.
